The history of
Education Development Association (EDA)
EDA is a registered charitable public company, limited by guarantee, and was established on 4 November 1964, setting out to empower young people to achieve their full potential through the delivery of educational programmes focused on character building. EDA’s first centre was Warrane College, a student residence at University of New South Wales in Sydney. The College was officially opened by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Roden Cutler VC AK KCMG KCVO CBE, on 13 June 1971.
Like other centres of EDA, Warrane offers subject tutoring, library facilities for study, and mentoring, as well as the opportunity for students to take part in formation activities around the Catholic faith.
Warrane has now been operating for over 50 years. Over that time, EDA has expanded through the establishment of a number of study centres directed at providing a deeper education to its attendees, which will supplement their formal learning.
All of EDA’s centres are established through local parents and others who see the benefit of the programs that EDA has to offer. EDA now has study centres in NSW, QLD, VIC, and co-ordinates educational and formational activities in other states and territories.

How
We do this
By making residential and after hours centres available for young boys and men. Centres which will broaden their education to incorporate dedication to study, work done well and to family, forming them to be better human beings, through strength of character and love of God.
EDA &
Opus Dei
The spiritual formation and faith-based activities at the Centres of EDA are entrusted to Opus Dei, which is a personal prelature of the Catholic Church, approved by Pope John Paul II on 9 April 1982. St Josemaria Escriva, a Catholic priest, founded Opus Dei, meaning “Work of God” in Latin, on 2 October 1928.
The mission of Opus Dei is to promote a deep awareness of the universal call to union with God, among people of all walks of life, through their daily activities. In other words, finding God in your everyday life. Opus Dei operates throughout the world in over 80 countries. The Central Headquarters for Opus Dei is located in the city of Rome. Governance
Responsibility for EDA ultimately lies with the Board of Directors.
The Board of EDA appoints Principals (Project Managers) for each of its initiatives. The operations of EDA are under the oversight of our General Manager, Mr Barry Abboud. Contact with the Board may be made through the Company’s General Manager at gm@eda.edu.au

Child Protection
Education Development Association (EDA) and its projects are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment to enable the development of children to their full potential, in accordance with Christian principles and relevant civil legislation.
