What is Education Development Association?
Education Development Association (EDA) aims to promote education and training in particular of young people. Its educational activities focus on all-round development. EDA’s educational philosophy fosters the development of one’s character as a foundation for the acquisition of other skills.
EDA was founded in 1965 by a group of Sydney residents from different career and religious backgrounds. Their aim was to establish an association that would sponsor and promote educational projects to meet the needs of Australian society. EDA is an Australian not-for-profit company and a registered charity.
The founding directors of EDA were inspired by St JosemaríaEscrivá, founder of Opus Dei, who challenged lay men and women to live up to their responsibilities as citizens and improve society.
Today there are activities sponsored by EDA in Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart. Projects of EDA are open to all people, regardless of background.
Alongside its educational aims, EDA’s projects offer pastoral care in the Catholic tradition. EDA has entrusted the pastoral care of its activities to Opus Dei, an organisation of the Catholic Church.
EDA has a Child Protection Policy which is available for download.
